Diagnosis Amended, after Segers (1995) [Ref.361546]: "Diagnosed by the structure of the foot and of the trophi in the female. Foot inserted subdistally, consisting of an anteriorly partly covered, rigid foot pseudosegment bearing two separate or partly fused toes, or a single toe. Trophi characterised by a short fan- or rod-shaped fulcrum; small but broad, asymmetrical rami bearing alulae; unci with mostly three unequal, fused teeth; manubria broad, elongate, and curved distally." Taxonomy From Edmondson (1935:304) [Ref.362475]: "...these considerations lead to the inevitable conclusion that Lecane and Monostyla are not distinct genera and it is here proposed to unite the two groups under the name Lecane Nitzsch (1827), type species, Lecane luna (Müller). This generic name, under the International Rules of Zoological Nomenclature, takes precedence over the name Monostyla Ehrenberg (1830)." [details]
