PRE-EVENT –première of ‘Living with a warming ocean’

The CLAMER documentary film, ‘Living with a warming ocean’ will be premiered at the conference pre-event. Filmed in seven European countries, the 57’ documentary focuses on public attitudes towards science communication regarding climate change in Europe, its impact on our marine waters and its wider socio-economic consequences. CONFERENCE
15 September 2011 (09:00-17:00)
This one day conference will present key findings of the CLAMER project, including:
- Results of the pan-European public poll, conducted to investigate public views and understanding about climate change and the marine environment
- Main messages from a state-of-the-art overview of EU research results on marine climate change, which summarizes all existing scientific outputs
Leading experts in climate change science and related mitigation and adaptation strategies will be given the floor, among them Prof. Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The conference will be chaired by Quentin Cooper, presenter of ‘The Material World’ on BBC Radio 4, the UK's most-listened-to science programme.

The Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts is an independent learned society for the practice and promotion of science and arts in Flanders. The Academy organises an array of scientific and cultural activities. Also it encourages the collaboration between the Flemish universities, it delegates representatives to international organisations and discussion meetings (contactfora), it attracts foreign scholars to develop research activities, it advises on matters of social importance on behalf of the government, industry, educational establishments and research centres and finally the Academy awards prizes to talented and promising researchers and artists.
HOW TO REACH?
- From the airport: train to Brussels Central Station
- By train: Brussels Central Station. It’s only a 10 minutes’ walk. It’s also possible to take the metro.
- By metro (MIVB): Metro station Troon
From Central Station: line 1 or 5 to Kunst-Wet, then line 2 or 6.
From North Station: metro Rogier, line 2 or 6 direction Koning Boudewijn or Simonis (Leopold II).
From South Station: line 2 or 6 direction Simonis (Elisabeth) - By car: follow the inner lane of the inner ring road, past the Wetstraat (=Regentlaan), take the rightmost lane, and either enter the Academy Palace here, or turn around the domain of the Academy Palace to enter it at the side of the Royal Palace.
WHERE TO PARK?
There are ample parking possibilities on the palace square (parking meter); the car parks in the Albertina and rue de la Loi (paid parking). Click here for an overview of the parking lots near the academy.

The organisation strongly recommends that participants take out comprehensive medical and travel insurance, which should cover the possibility of flight cancellation due to strikes and other causes.
