Abstract
2 new species of starfishes from the family Brisingidae were found during the 11th voyage of the R/V Akademik Kurchatov in the abyssal troughs of the South Atlantic. Freyella mutabila sp. n. resembles F. heroina and F. remex in dolabriform ends of furrow spinelets and F. drygalskii in the same number of rays but differs from the two former species by the lesser total body size, lesser number of rays, form of abactinal plates, size of disc spines, greater number of pedicellariae on disc, and from the latter species by the form and number of furrow spinelets, presence of pedicellariae on the abactinal body side. F. formosa sp. n. differs from other species of the genus by the combination of the following features: 8 rays, numerous long abactinal spines, many large pedicellariae, 2 subambulacral spines on each proximal adambulacral plate, broadened to the end proximal furrow spinelets.
