New geophysical surveys at sea

In the spring of 2014 two new geophysical (seismic) surveys will be carried out at sea by the University of Ghent and Deltares. The first survey will take place from 22^nd to 25^th April on board the RV Belgica. During this survey different acoustic sources and receivers will be used to map the palaeo-landscape under the Thornton bank. The presence of old river valleys, which are now deeply buried under the sea bed, plays an important role. A second survey will take place from the 12^th to 16^th May on board the RV Simon Stevin. During this survey, previous research on the Ostend valley, which commenced in October 2013, will be continued and elaborated on.
