Beach inspection
On 23rd August 2013 beach surveying activities were organized with children and supervisors from the non-profit organization ‘Youth Culture and Science’ (Jeugd Cultuur en Wetenschap) in the area of our test site for geophysical research in Raversijde. In this manner, we hope to get a clearer picture of the archaeological potential of this zone. At the same time, these surveying activities contributed to increasing the interest and knowledge on marine archaeology among the broader public. The most common types of findings included fragments of medieval and later bricks, nearly all smaller than 1 cm. Also a few Roman pottery fragments were found in addition to the brick fragments and medieval and more recent pottery fragments.
