Block reservations at special conference rates have been made in six hotels in Oostende within walking distance from the conference venue. The map below gives an idea of their location.
Reservations will be handled by Tourism Oostende on a first come, first served basis. Early reservation is highly recommended as Oostende is very crowded all year round.

How to reach?

By air
Oostende is easily reachable by air – Belgium’s main international airport (Brussel Nationaal) is situated about 120 km/75 miles away. Flight schedules for departures and arrivals are available at the official Brussels airport website at www.brusselsairport.be. The easiest way to travel from Brussels airport to Oostende is by train. The train station is located on level -1 of the airport building. The Airport City Express Train leaves 4 times an hour to Brussels North, Central and South Station. You will have to change in Brussels North, Central or South Station where you can take a connecting train to Oostende. The complete journey by train from Brussels airport to Oostende will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Timetables are available on the Belgian Railways website (http://www.b-rail.be/). From Oostende railway station you can take a tram to Thermae Palace (direction “De Panne”, stop “Koninginnelaan”). The tram journey takes app. 10 minutes. There are also taxis available outside the railway station.

By train
If you are travelling by train from London or Paris you will need to change in Brussels; if you are travelling by train from Amsterdam you will need to change in Antwerp. For timetables, prices and information on international train connections between Oostende and other European cities, please consult http://www.b-rail.be under ‘Travelling in Europe’. International trains usually arrive and leave from Brussels South Station (“Bruxelles Midi” in French/”Brussel Zuid” in Dutch), from where you can catch a train to Oostende. The train journey between Brussels South Station and Oostende takes app. 1 hour and 15 minutes.

By car

Where to park?

Thermae Palace has its own private car park located at the back of the hotel on the Koningin Astridlaan. A limited number of parking space is available there for conference delegates. Free parking can be found along the street, at the racehorse track (Wellington) and Kinepolis Cinema Complex on the other side of the road.

RESEARCH SHOWCASE - EXHIBITION

EurOCEAN 2010 Research Showcase (exhibition) will take place during the conference, from Tuesday 12 October (09.00) until Wednesday13 October (17.30). All the participants are invited to attend. To enter the showcase you will be requested to show your participant’s badge.

Information for exhibitors
It is compulsory for exhibitors to be registered for the conference - the conference badge will give access to the showcase and the conference. Exhibition set up will take place on Monday 11 October from 12.00 until 16.00. Registration will be open for exhibitors from Monday 12.00.

Visa & letter of invitation requests

If you need to apply for a visa, please apply early. Click here to read visa information for temporary visitors of Belgium.
Participants requiring a letter of invitation in order to attend the conference should contact the conference secretariat. Please include the following information:
- your full name as it appears on your passport
- complete mailing address as it appears on your passport
- job title/position and employer
- telephone number and/or fax number
- e-mail address
Please note that this procedure aims to assist participants who need to obtain a visa or permission to attend the conference and is not an official invitation covering fees or other expenses. A letter of invitation does not imply any financial support from the conference.

 


Certificates of attendance

Participants will receive certificates of attendance. These documents will be distributed on Wednesday, 13 October 2010.

 


Liability

The organisation cannot be responsible for healthcare, dental and ambulance services during the conference. The organisation strongly recommends that participants take out comprehensive medical and travel insurance, which should cover the possibility of flight cancellation due to strikes and other causes. Therefore, the organisers accept no responsibility of any nature whatsoever for personal injury, death, loss or damage to property or participants however caused or arising. The participants should make their own arrangements with respect to personal insurance, along with travel insurance.
