Abstract
This report summarises the results from a user consultation exercise performed in order to refine and adjust the ocean colour products needed to become the tools for monitoring eutrophication in coastal areas. In order to provide a wider view of the requirements from the community, the report additionally presents the results from other two consultations, driven by the European Space Agency: the Coastcolour and the Ocean Colour Climate Change Initiative. This is very valuable and important since many users may feel that they have been consulted too often so taking account of recent, relevant questionnaires adds to the knowledge base of ISECA. In-situ monitoring requirements from the current legislation on eutrophication (OSPAR 2003) are detailed to provide end-users with a guide to the biogeochemical parameters that should be monitored. This also facilitates identification of potential datasets from monitoring agencies and research institutes that could be used both to monitor eutrophication in the coastal zone and to validate satellite products.
