Editor's comment Wilson (1988) regarded Hypereteone as distinct, Pleijel (1991) did not, because of possible paraphyly with respect to some Eteone. Until a further detailed re-evaluation has been made, Hypereteone is retained here as distinct for the reasons advanced by Wilson. Note the type specimen of the Hypereteone type species, Eteone lactea, may not exist (fide Pleijel). Wilson (1988:414) discusses E. lactea (as H. lactea) and H. foliosa as possible synonyms. [details]
