Neotype MNHN 1545, geounit Marseille [details]
From editor or global species database
Type locality original type locality of Grube was Villa Franca, near Nice, Mediterranean Sea coast, France [details]
Type locality NEOTYPE: MNHN 1545 (Glasby and Hutchings 2014: 71). Anse du Rouet, west of Marseille, France, 43.3331°, 5.1528° (43°19ʹ59ʺ N, 5°09ʹ10ʺ E) 1.8 m. This location is probably not accurate as it is inland [details]
Type material Glasby & Hutchings (2014: 14) considered the type material of the genus Polycirrus Grube, 1850, P. medusa Grube, 1850, from "Villa Franca" (= Villefranche-sur-Mer, near Nice, France, Mediterranean Sea) to be lost, and designated a neotype from Anse du Rouet, just west of Marseille (France, Mediterranean Sea). However, Ssolowiew (1899: 186) refers two possible types deposited in the collection of the “Zoologischen Museum der Akademie” (= Musée Zoologique de l’Académie Impériale des Sciences de St. Pétersbourg, nowadays Zoological Museum of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Saint Petersburg). These possible types would had been used by Grube to establish the new genus and species: “Im Zoologischen Museum der Akademie fanden sich zwei Exemplare dieser letzteren Art [Terebella medusa], die Grube zur Aufstellung seiner neuen Gattung und Art bewogen haben. ” [details]Unreviewed
