Nomenclature This seems to be the first mention, in an available work, of the name Buccinum limatum Chemnitz, 1795, unavailable because published in a work rejected by ICZN. The name was mentioned in synonymy of Buccinum prismaticum Brocchi, 1814, but later extensively used as the valid name of a taxon (e.g. Deshayes, 1838: 200).
Therefore, following ICZN Art. 11.6.1. "However, if such a name published as a junior synonym had been treated before 1961 as an available name and either adopted as the name of a taxon or treated as a senior homonym, it is made available thereby but dates from its first publication as a synonym..."
The name is anyway predated by Buccinum lima Dillwyn, 1817, an objective synonym.  [details]
