Biology Type of larval development: direct (non planktotrophic) denoted by paucispiral protoconch.  [details]

Diagnosis Shell 1.6 to to 2.2 mm high, with protoconch of 1.25 convex whorls, and teleoconch of ca. 3 to 3.25 whorls. Protoconch with delicate spiral cords and sometimes a very faint adapical keel.; teleoconch whorls with a keel at a distance abapically from suture. Teleoconch with flexuous folds, more or less developed on different individuals, fading out on abapical surface of body whorl. Spiral sculpture of flat cords, much broader than interspaces, bearing the characteristic Manzonia-microsculpture of minute pits forming spiral lines. Outer lip opisthocline, thickened externally by a narrow but definite rim, smooth inside. Inner lip thin, appressed. Shell white.

This relatively rare species differs from the sympatric and more common M. lusitanica Gofas, 2007 in the more turriculate outline with a well-defined shoulder on the whorls, and in the sculpture where the flat cords are much broader than the grooves. The protoconchs are also different, strongly keeled adapically in M. lusitanica and roundish with distinct spirals in M. taeniata[details]
