Carlgren tentatively synonymized Bolocera eques Gosse 1860 with U. felina lofotensis (orig name Madoniactis lofotensis Danielssen, 1890). The synonymy used the younger name, as Urticina felina lofotensis. Carlgren (1921, p. 162) affirms a distinction between this Urticina felina lofotensis and U. felina crassicornis (orig name Actinia crassicornis Mueller 1776). Note that Carlgren erroneously gave 1860 (versus 1858) as the publication year for Gosse.

Definitive synonymy of U. lofotensis with U. eques. The older species epithet is preferred, contra Carlgren (1921). Note that the name U. lofotensis has also been used for a sea anemone in California; this is probably not the same as the species in the Atlantic.
