Specimens of a Stenocaris previous reported as Stenocaris minor Scott, 1983 sensu Apostolov (1971) from ? sandbar at the mouth of the Veleka River, discharging into the Black Sea, are here recognized as a distinct new species, - Stenocaris galazoiensis n. sp. The new species is clearly distinguishable from Stenocaris minor by the overall length of the body, the number of setae on the fifth leg in females and the length of the caudal rami, as well as the sexual dimorphism of P3 ENP which is one-segmented in males. The species Stenocaris pygmaea sensu Marinov (1971) was synonymized with Stenocaris pontica Chappuis & Serban, 1953 and transferred to the genus Vermicaris Kornev & Chertoprud, 2008 as Vermicaris pontica (Chappuis & Serban, 1953), on the basis of the synapomorphic characters of the reduced state of the second and fifth legs. The genus Vermicaris Kornev & Chertoprud, 2008 is new for the Bulgarian Black Sea fauna. Key words: Bulgaria, copepods, interstitial fauna, new species, taxonomy.
