Nomenclature Introduced as a replacement name for Acanthochitidae, because its type genus, Acanthochites, is a synonym of Acanthochiton [emendation of Acanthochitona]. Ashby [1925, Proceedings of the Royal Society of Victoria, new ser., 37(2): 178] discussed the nomenclature of Acanthochitidae vs. Acanthochitonidae and concluded that they are two different names with different authorship; however he missed the earliest introductions of both names. This is a situation, covered by Art. 40; Acanthochitonidae is in prevailing usage, and is conserved with the precedence of Acanthochitidae (1881). [details]
