Taxonomy According to Cardenas et al. (2011) this species is a Geodia based on molecular analysis, but since it lacks the sterrasters of Geodia, this decision is postponed until confirmed by independent studies. If it will eventually be reassigned to Geodia it will have to be renamed as the combination Geodia tuberosa is preoccupied by Geodia tuberosa Schmidt, 1862. [details]
