Type species Sabellides elongatus Ehler, 1913 is type species of Neosabellides by monotypy. Hessle (1917) also mentions that "Neosabellides probably also includes Sabellides oceanica Fauvel 1914." but the Code requires that provisional inclusions into a genus should be disregarded when considering what species is the type species. Jirkov (2018) mentions that "This species [S. elongatus] was already designated as type species of Neosabellides by Hartman (1959) [and others] " but this is irrelevant in this case. Hartman (1959) is a catalogue & checklist, primarily repeating what is already known. [details]
