TenneT completed the construction of Hollandse Kust-Zuid (HK(z)) in 2022. In order to comply with the permit requirements of the Nature Conservation Act for this project, it is obliged to monitor the effects of EMF on fish and marine mammals (See MEP - 126943/22-003.780). In this quotation, VLIZ-MOC is responsible for the execution of the partim ‘diadrome fish’.
To determine whether the migration behaviour of diadrome fish is influenced by the EMF of the cables, the migration behaviour of Twaith shad in the Western Scheldt will be investigated. We look at the timing and time of passage of the fish in this part of the Western Scheldt. In addition, we evaluate the depth at which the fish swim.
The Fish Acoustic Receiver network of the Belgian LifeWatch observatory (https://lifewatch.be/nl/node/123) is used, which is part of the European LifeWatch consortium that provides e-Science research infrastructure.
