Introduction timeline

Discover how the Belgian coastline has changed throughout time and what finds have been made at the coast.

The interactive timeline has various components (see image):

  1. The archeological and geological time periods. When you click on the terms, a short explanation is given.
  2. The variations of the sea level throughout time. The clickable dots on the sea level curve lead to a paleogeographic map with the location of the coastline at that particular time.
  3. The presence of different types of finds throughout time (green vertical bars) with clickable icons which lead to examples of real finds in the Belgian part of the North Sea or on the Belgian coast.

The scientific sources which underpin the timeline are inserted as a hyperlink to provide to user with more information.
