Atheneum Ghent (Belgium) - 4th year Sciences

Here is a little presentation of our lovely science class. And the big school were we are studying. We're a class of 24 students studying science in the Royal Atheneum III in Ghent. Ghent is a city situated in the northwest part of Belgium, 55 km from Brussels, our capital city. It is known for its beautiful historical buildings, cathedrals and it has a castle in the centre.

Our school is a very big one, over 1000 students in grades 3 through 6. We are all in 4th grade ranging from age 15 to 16.

We all like science. When our biology teacher (Mrs. Eggermont) told us about this project, we all wanted to take part in this activity. We haven't learned anything about this yet, so we want to learn a lot more! We would be pleased if we could learn something more about this subject.

Our biology teacher
Mrs. Eggermont, our biology teacher, has studied veterinary science and is pursuing a Masters in Marine and Lacustrine science at the University in Ghent. She is preparing her thesis in cooperation with VLIZ, with the intent of creating lecture packets on marine issues to be used by high school teachers.

Some of the pupils:

Wouter Vervaet
date of birth: 10/04/1991
Age: 15
Language skills: Dutch, English and French
Hobbies: Scouts, computer, listening to music, being outside, …

I'm Wouter, I'm 15 years old and I study at the K.A. Voskenslaan. I think this is a great school because we have good teachers and we learn a lot of things. Of course I'm very happy that we have the chance to do a project about this subject.

Loïc Labeeu
Date of birth: 09/10/1991
Age: 15
Language skills: Dutch, English and French
Hobbies: Tennis, computer, making lots of fun, playing the guitar, watching films, …

Hey, my name is Loïc. It's my second year here in this school and I love it here! I'm very happy with our biology teacher. Mrs. Eggermont is very interested in her pupils and she really wants the best for us. And again, a great idea! I think this was one of her best ideas. I love to do other stuff then just sitting at my computer all day long. I think this is a great project.
