Nomenclature Name originally published by Oken (1815) in a book ("Lehrbuch der Naturgeschichten") which has been placed on the Official index of rejected Works (ICZN Opinion 417). It was first used as valid by Schmidt (1818) who included two species, inaequivalvis and rugosus and cited Donax irus in the synonymy of the latter. This last species becomes the type species by tautonymy. [details]
