This data set gives all occurrences of marine oligochaetes in the Southern Ocean mentioned in the literature, from 1888 (first mention) until 2009. 25 species were mentioned, representative of three families, namely the Capilloventridae (1 genus, 1 species), the Enchytraeidae (3 genera, 16 species) and the Tubificidae. The latter family includes 3 subfamilies, the Rhyacodrilinae (1 genus, 1 species + 1 undetermined), the Phallodrilinae (3 genera, 5 species) and the Limnodriloidinae (1 genus, 1 species). meer
In addition to taxonomic information, the set includes data on the distribution of marine oligochaetes of the Southern Ocean (with geographic coordinates when available), their depth range and habitat. The present accepted taxonomic status is mentioned, together with junior synonyms, as mentioned in the original publications. All bibliographic references giving a new occurrence are provided.
