| Abstract |
For the first time in Belgian history, a Law is adopted aiming at protecting the entire marine environment under Belgian jurisdiction. The Law is far from perfect, and forms a compromise between the positions of the different administrations and ministers involved in the area. Some aspects are not regulated yet, such as the establishment of MPAs, the restriction of polluting activities at sea, environmental assessment procedures, the clear definition of the 'environmental impact'-concept, and the compensation procedures in case of hazards. |
