Abstract
Environmental Risk Assessment for European Agriculture (ENRISK) is a new project to further develop agri-environmental assessments by investigating the role of risk assessments as a means for policy implementation on sustainable land use, nature conservation and landscape management at the European level. The aim of identifying areas that appears, as environmentally sensitive for certain forms of agricultural land use is mainly a test case for validating the quality of European versus regional assessments. The focus of this project is clustered around the interface between research on natural and social sciences and the applicability for policy development and implementation. Indicators, as discussed and called upon in debates and programmes of the last decade, must be considered mainly as communication tools for society and policy makers to facilitate the dialogue and understanding of complex environmental processes. In this paper, the methodological framework for the project is delineated.
