Big Shell Counting Day 2021

Even in corona times, anyone can be a (marine) scientist for one day, and help us map the diversity of the shells on our Belgian coast. Go to the beach in your family bubble in the weekend of 13-14 March and collect 100 shells according to our standard method. Identify and count them, and take pictures. At the online HELPdesk experts can help you to recognize any problem cases, before you enter your data and photos in the input system. So completely corona proof! More information on the Dutch pages on our website.

Organisation

The Big Shell Counting Day is organised by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), the Province of West-Flanders, EOS science magazine, Strandwerkgroep, Natuurpunt and Kusterfgoed, in close cooperation with the coastal municipalities – Initiative within the frame of LifeWatch.
