VLIZ is a partner in three European research infrastructures: LifeWatch focuses on biodiversity research, ICOS monitors the greenhouse gas balance and EMBRC provides access to marine organisms. These projects are part of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). Aside VLIZ has an active role in the development of a European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet).
