Brief descriptions and redescriptions as well as new synonymy for twelve species of the genus Ironus are presented; I. leoborkini sp. n., I. gagarini sp. n., I. ignavus (neotypus) and I. tenuicaudatus are described with more details. Morphologica1 principles, principles of generic taxonomy and some evolutionary and phylogenetic aspects of the order Dorylaimida are discussed.
