Abstract
The present review is oriented to establish a basis for further study work of cohesive sediment transport and rheology. A theoretical review, of several models, is made. These models were proposed to simulate the transport and parameters of cohesive sediments (i.e. muds) during the sedimentation and consolidation. The main topics that were studied are: sedimentation, hindered settling of sediments in suspension, effective stress of consolidating muds and rheological properties of cohesive sediments. These numerical formulations were assessed, were possible, by their application to the measurements of the Sediment Test Tank. Most of the formulations were validated showing good correlations. However, in some cases, it was not possible to apply the reviewed models to the initial sedimentation phase because this phase was not part of the experimental work.
