Abstract
The main focus of the MARIE project is the joint and coupled numerical prediction of wave/current and river plume hydrodynamics. This prediction will include data assimilation, taking into account the inherent dynamics of the modelling suite. This topic is scientifically interesting because of the necessity to increase the knowledge on the hydro-morphodynamics and nutrient fluxes of ROFI (regions of freshwater influence) areas. These areas are very productive in biological and economic terms and subject to an increasing pressure of use along the Iberian Peninsula coast-line. The associated ROFI dynamics, however, are still not known in detail and the corresponding pre-operational simulations can not be carried out efficiently nor robustly under the present state-of-art.
