Abstract: |
Onderzoekers binnen de afdeling Geologie bestuderen de planeet Aarde. In het bijzonder wordt de vaste planeet bekeken, en probeert de afdeling te begrijpen hoe deze functioneert van lokale tot globale schaal, en tot miljarden jaren terug in de tijd. Naast fundamentele vragen over hoe geologische processen werken, is het onderzoek gedreven door de maatschappelijke uitdagingen van vandaag en in de toekomst, zoals het gebruik van niet-hernieuwbare grondstoffen, de beschikbaarheid van water, klimaatsverandering of het beheer van afval. Met het onderzoek en onderwijs willen de afdeling bijdragen tot duurzame oplossingen voor deze uitdagingen. |
