Abstract:
Sciensano is een openbare wetenschappelijke instelling die gezondheid, wetenschap en maatschappij met elkaar wil verbinden. Sciensano zet zijn gegevens, wetenschappelijke expertise en netwerk in voor de gezondheid van mens en dier. De kracht van Sciensano ligt in zijn holistische en interdisciplinaire benadering van gezondheid (""One Health""), die het toepast in zijn wetenschappelijke activiteiten, diensten en adviezen.

Mariene onderzoekstoepassingen zijn bij Sciensano te vinden op verschillende onderwerpen. Enkele voorbeelden van mogelijke toepassingen zijn: door voedsel veroorzaakte ziektes veroorzaakt door mariene biotoxines gevonden in zeevruchten door toxische algen die tot de chemische contaminanten behoren; ziektes (bv. vogelgriep) die zeevogels treffen; analyse en risicokarakterisering van arsenen in voedingssupplementen op basis van algen en zeedieren; analyse en risico-evaluatie van mariene toxines, zoals: Amnesische of Paralytische Schelpdiervergiftigingstoxinen (ASP&PSP) en lipofiele groepstoxinen; analyse van metalen en sporenelementen in mariene sedimenten en biota. De meest recente aanpak omvat de risico-batenanalyse van visconsumptie.
