Abstract:
Het onderzoek van het laboratoire Génétique et Physiologie de Microalgues is gericht op de karakterisering van bio-energetische circuits (ademhaling, fotosynthese, fermentatie) in eencellige microalgen van diverse evolutionaire oorsprong, zoals de groene alg Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (Chlorofyten), de rode alg Galdieria sulphuraria, de mariene diatomee Thalassiosira pseudonana (Bacillariophytes), de secundaire groene alg Euglena gracilis (Euglenophytes) of het mariene dinoflagellaat Symbiodinium (Dinophytes). Deze fotosynthetische micro-eukaryoten zijn van ecologisch, evolutionair of biotechnologisch belang.

De belangrijkste onderzoeksthema's zijn onder meer:
  • samenstelling, assemblage en structuur van ademhalingscomplexen;
  • assimilatie van exogene koolstofbronnen (heterotrofie en mixotrofie);
  • reguleringsmechanismen van de fotosynthetische elektronenoverdrachtsketen;
  • interacties tussen bio-energetische processen (ademhaling, fotosynthese en fermentatie);
  • ontwikkeling van genetische instrumenten (transformatie en mutant screening strategie).
