Beschrijving
This data tests the following 4 baits in Ria Formosa Lagoon, Portugal; Mackerel, Crab, Squid and Control (no bait). The aim is to identify the best methods for using BRUVs in dynamic coastal locations. meer

Bait (mackerel, squid, crab, control ; fixed) assemblages were observed using baited remote underwater mono-video systems. Each deployment station was standardised for depth (3-10m) and substrate (seagrass) following the skipper’s knowledge. Samples were collected during daylight hours (08:00 to 19.30) allowing an hour between sunrise/sunset to avoid crepuscular variation in the assemblages. Ten replicates of each bait type were collected (40 deployments in total). The location of each replicate within each site was randomly positioned at a minimum distance of 350m to avoid overlap of bait plumes and reduce the likelihood of fish moving between sites during the sampling period. Furthermore, the order of bait deployed was also randomised. Each sample was deployed for 1 hour with GPS locations taken for each deployment. Bait was chopped up prior to the survey and placed into sealed labelled bags ready for deployment. The raw videos are large (700GB) but can be obtained upon contact. Processed video data including MaxN and arrival times of species will be made open access once published.
