VLIZ recruits: Symfony PHP Software Engineer

Your tasks

  • You coordinate or carry out the entire development path of an information system: analysis, improvements, development and basic testing. This is done in consultation with a scientific officer and under the supervision of the IT division manager.
  • You keep information systems operational and performing, develop services and web applications to make data easily available online.
  • You are responsible for the analysis, assessment and further development of existing applications order to optimize and further expand them in the context of new projects (this will mainly include taxonomic information systems such as Aphia and various harvesters).
  • You support a number of users and train them in new information systems.
  • If necessary, you participate in the data management of these information systems.

Your profile

  • You have a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or equivalent by experience.
  • You have a good knowledge of OO PHP (Symfony).
  • You can easily model applications and you use the proper analysis tools.
  • You can set up, build and design REST APIs.
  • You have knowledge of Git (CI/CD).
  • You have experience with database design and systems (MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • You master scripting languages like : SQL, HTML, Javascript, shell.
  • Background knowledge of R, GeoServer, Linux is a plus.
  • You communicate clearly in Dutch or English.
  • You have social skills in your service provision.
  • You work independently, but you can also act as a team player in multiple projects.
  • You are solution-oriented, but ask for help when necessary.
  • You are willing to work in an international context.
  • You attach great importance to writing accurate and structured (and therefore reusable) code.
  • Occasionally you want to perform a task outside office hours.
