Abstract

This interdisciplinary PhD project examines the psychological and physiological restoration (i.e. stress-reducing) potential of the different coastal environments in Belgium. In this research, new technologies (e.g. eye tracking, VR) are integrated into a series of experiments to measure the psychophysiological responses to the coast vs. inland green and urban controls. These experiments are complemented with a large-scale survey that aims to unravel the social structuring of recreational visits to the Belgian coast.
