Abstract
The objectives of the project are (1) to compare the functional and structural complexity in terms of biodiversity of selected habitats and relevant ecosystem components between exploited peri-urban and pristine mangroves (2) To assign risk of contamination due to pollution at higher levels of the benthic food chain (3) To assign early warning indicators for unnatural changes in ecosystem functioning in mangroves (4) To ensure continuity in specialist training at and beyond postgraduate level
