Flanders' Harbour Day 2017 - RV Simon Stevin open to public

Our Flemish ports are internationally renowned and loved. During the fifth Flanders Harbour Day on Sunday the 17th of September everyone gets the chance to discover the surprising and versatile activities in our ports. The port of Ostend stands out as a hub for 'blue energy' and 'research'. Ostend is also the home to the research vessel Simon Stevin.

On 17 September the RV Simon Stevin opens its doors for the public. The coastal vessel is deployed by VLOOT together with Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ). On board of this Flemish research vessel scientists perform a wide variety of marine research mainly in the Belgian part of the North Sea. The RV Simon Stevin caters the needs of the wide diversity of marine research disciplines and is equipped with high technological devices. A diesel electric drive unit makes it possible to sail as a ‘silent ship’ so that all acoustic measuring instruments can be used optimally. At the Flanders Harbour Day the research vessel can be visited.  Researchers will explain several aspects of the marine research performed on board.

Have a look at all activities that take place in Ostend at the site of the 'Vlaamse Havendag' (only in Dutch).
