The Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) presents the third edition of the Compendium for Coast and Sea on Friday 7 December 2018. Place to be is De Grote Post in Ostend (9:30-12:30). The launch event will focus on the importance of marine research in Flanders and Belgium, and its valorisation in innovative applications or sustainable marine policy. We also look back on the evolution of marine research over the last 10 years and the needs for the future. The event is open to marine scientists, policy makers, industry and other interested users or stakeholders of the sea and coast.

The Compendium for Coast and Sea is an initiative of VLIZ, in which experts from research, government and civil society organizations are closely involved. The main objective is to make available scientifically based and up-to-date information about the Belgian part of the North Sea and the Flemish coastal area. The Compendium aims to provide an answer to social questions and problems within the marine and maritime context.

On Friday 7 December the third edition of the Compendium for Coast and Sea will be presented, with an up-to-date overview of:
- the scientific knowledge and policy regarding the different user functions on the Belgian part of the North Sea
- the legislative and policy framework applicable for marine and maritime activities in the Belgian part of the North Sea
- the Belgian marine research, the research infrastructure and funding opportunities for research and innovation

The launch event will focus on the importance of marine research in Flanders and Belgium, and its valorisation in innovative applications or sustainable marine policy. We also look back on the evolution of marine research over the last 10 years and the needs for the future.
